Academic Research

Spanning nearly three decades (1997–2025) and supported by over ₹15 crore in funding from premier national and international agencies (including DST, DBT, CSIR, ICMR, BIRAC, SERB/ANRF, and Indo-French collaborations), the center's research portfolio exhibits extraordinary breadth, tackling critical challenges across human health (personalized gut-microbiome therapies, AI-driven MASLD/diabetes risk prediction, and orthohantavirus diagnostics), sustainable infrastructure (bacteria-based self-healing concrete, anti-corrosive bio-products, and crack remediation), and environmental biotechnology (heavy-metal bioremediation, bioenergy from agricultural waste, and polluted-soil metatranscriptomics). Reflecting this diverse portfolio, the affiliated faculty possess a wide-ranging interdisciplinary expertise that seamlessly integrates microbiology, molecular genetics, metabolomics, structural engineering, artificial intelligence, nanobiotechnology, biosensor development, and plant-fungal symbiosis, positioning the center as a unique translational hub capable of converting fundamental biological discoveries into tangible industrial, medical, and ecological solutions.
